Congratulations to Lauren and Tatum who took part in our Council Meeting at the Millennium Place last Thursday. Lauren was our first BMX-ing mayor of Whistler and Tatum proposed the creation of APP for emergencies in Whistler.

Last week students helped build a garden bed from scratch. GREAT TEAM EFFORT !!! On Tuesday afternoon, we will finish building it.

No more dictées or Home Reading, however students are encouraged to continue practicing their French Vocabulary words and read a French book daily for 15 minutes. 

Please sign and return all GREEN OUTDOOR FORMS by Wednesday, May 25. The $100 deposit is due on June 6. 

There is an Assembly on Thursday from 9 to 10 am. There will be a presentation of learning of the musical compositions that the children have created in Grades 5-7.

This week we are going on a Field Trip -  attending a council meeting. One of our students has been selected to be mayor for the day. We are leaving at 8:45 by school bus and the bus will pick us up at 12:00.

Grade 6s will attend the last presentation on Body Science Talk this  Wednesday afternoon. 

There is no dictée or home reading this week. However, students are encouraged to read a French Book daily for 15 to 30 minutes and continue to study previous French vocabulary words.

La semaine du 2 mai

This is the FINAL week to write up the FINAL copy of your speech on Q-CARDS.  In class presentations will begin on Monday, May 9. We will be selecting the top presenters on Thursday, May 12. 

This is the last week for our
Home Reading book reports. They should read 15 to 30 minutes daily (Monday through Friday) and record vocabulary words in their "Le cadre de l'histoire".  Students need to complete their poster sheet "Une étude de roman".  
​Book reports are due on Monday, May 9th.

We will continue with Tennis this week and we will be running on Thursday morning instead of Friday. 

This students need to finish their French project on 
"Ziggy qui voulait faire le tour de mode".  This includes a French package, recording themselves reading the story, creating art work, writing a post-card, answering comprehension questions and creating a PREZI presentation on the computer with a partner. (Please don't forget to review the criteria and rubric for this project!) This project WAS due at the end of last week : Friday, April 29. For the presentation part of this project, students will be using PREZI. Oral presentations begin this week on WEDNESDAY, May 4
​(I have given students an extension) 


This week students will select from previous Dictées. There will be a game at the end of the week. The table group that wins will win a prize. 

This Friday, May 6 we are going to Whistler Secondary School to attend the 24 hour drum . In the afternoon, we will go on a nature walk and play some forest games. The school bus leaves at 10 am and will pick us up at 2 pm. We will be back just before 2:30 pm for dismissal. 

This week a guest speaker will present to each Intermediate grade in the school about “Body Science”. The Parent Advisory Committee sponsors these presentations, and they are presented by OPT 
https://www.optionsforsexualhealth.org/about-opt . Grade 6 students will have a second presentation on May 18.

This MONDAY, grade 6 students will attend a White Hatter presentation from 9:30 to 11:00. The themes will address internet safety and include how important it is to keep your digital footprint positive, avoid cyber-bullying, and what to do if you feel like you are being bullied. 

This is the FINAL week to write up  your speech for the 
Spring Creek Annual Speeches. By the end of this week students should  have also written 1/3 of their speech in FRENCH. In class presentations will begin on Monday, May 9. We will be selecting the top presenters on Thursday, May 12.

La semaine du 18 avril 

This week students will continue preparing for our Spring Creek Annual Speeches. By the end of this week students should have finished writing up their speeches and start writing one idea in French. 

​Students need to continue reading their Home Reading book they selected from the library. They should read 15 to 30 minutes daily (Monday through Friday) and record vocabulary words in their "Le cadre de l'histoire".  Students should also begin filling in their poster sheet "Une étude de roman".  Book reports are due on May 9th.

This week for dictée students will select their own vocabulary words (10 words) from the exercise we did in class on "La valise à Ziggy".  Students selected words based on what Ziggy would bring in his lugguage  for his trip around the world.

In French, students will begin working on a project inspired by the book: "Ziggy qui voulait faire le tour du monde. I will be giving a criteria and rubric sheet explaining the project this Tuesday. 

This week for Social studies we will be exploring First Nation cultures across Canada before European contact. 

For physical education, on Monday we will be joining École Paserelle for a African dance presentation. For the rest of the week,  Logan, Josh and Felix will be leading our class in a Hockey unit. 

For art, we will continue working on our Rangoli and Mandala designs and hopefully this week go outside to draw them out on the playground. 

In Math, students will begin designing their Tiny/Small houses blue print plans. 

Students are asked to bring in a tea or coffee mug for an art project.

Every FRIDAY, we will be running first thing in the morning. Students need to bring their outdoor running shoes.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great spring break.

Student will be bringing home their portfolios of term 1 and 2 this week.  Portfolios include all rubrics, tests, student goals and projects. Please take the time to look over the portfolios and celebrate your child's achievements. Parents who would like to meet this week (those who were unable to attend the student-led conferences) please email me. 

This week students will start preparing for our Spring Creek Annual Speeches. Students will be asked to present a 2 to 3 minute speech (in English and French) on a "concept worth sharing".

We are starting a new home reading activity. Therefore, please return all previous HOME READING BOOKS. For the next 4 weeks, students will select their own French books/novels from the library and create a book report in French. Students will select 2 shorter stories or 1 longer novel to read and write about. 

The dictée this week is on the verb ALLER (to go) and VENIR (to come) in the present tense. 

We are staring a poetry unit in French. Our first entry will be a bio-poem and is due at the end of this week.

This week students will be helping out there buddy class. They will be helping to construct scenes from their buddies' favourite book. 

We will also be preparing for our student led conferences, which take place on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. 

Make sure you bring a shirt that can get acrylics on it because you will be painting with Kris Kupsky – our artist in residence -  who will be painting with you for the next two weeks.

Air Band /Lip Synch rehearsals are underway for the performances on the last day of school before Spring Break – March 18 


This Friday grade 6 students are heading to the millenium place to watch a performance by the drama students of Whistler Secondary School.  Their performance this year is "The Outsiders"

Happy Leap Year 2016! This Monday students will be playing the  games they created to review what they have learned about
leap years.

On Tuesday, to review important science concepts, Mme Millen's class and my class will be playing a Jeopardy game on
body systems. 

This Thursday, March 3 we are going cross country skiing again. Please make sure you are at school on time. The bus leaves at 8:45 am. Please bring extra clothes in case it rains.

This week in French, we are focusing on action verbs and how to conjugate verbs that end in -er in the present tense. Students will receive a package that needs to be completed for this Friday.

This is the last week students will be working on their science projects on diseases. Students will have an opportunity to work on their projects on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, we will practice presenting our projects to classmates.

Due to early dismissal at 12:05pm on Wednesday, February 17th the Pulled Pork and Falafel Sandwich Day has been moved to Wednesday, February 10th.

Registration for Sea to Sky District 48 Late French Immersion (grade 5) program of choice in Whistler will be opening up on Friday, February 26 at 8 am for September 2016.  The parent information session will take place on Thursday, February 18, from 6 – 7 pm in the Spring Creek library.

on February 15 and March 3. 

This week students will be working on a last project for our Body Systems unit. In collaboration with Mme. Millen class, students will be researching different diseases, conditions or illnesses and learning how they can be prevented or managed.

Parents are welcome come to our presentation of learning at school on Friday, February 19 at 1:30pm, location TBA.

We are excited to have a real audience and will let you know how you can be a critical friend to our students before you come. If anyone has any community members they would like to bring, or extended family, please feel free.

Thank you parents and students for coming and participating in our student-led conferences last week. I really enjoyed meeting with everyone. I was so impressed with how your children presented their work and talking about their term 2 goals. 

We are back on track for our Home Reading Program. I gave students a bit of a break last week but they will receive new books to read this week. Please remind your child to listen and read the books aloud several times to practice proper pronunciation. 

We are going to Crêpe Montagne and the Whistler Museum this Thursday, December 10 from 8:30 till lunch time (12:45). We will need parent volunteers. 

  PETER PAN is coming! Students are working very hard to learn lines, songs, dances, create props and more. Be sure to set aside time to come and watch the show on Tuesday, December 15 at 6 :00pm.  Costume details will come soon. 

Santa’s Workshop is this Friday, December 11. Our class will help their buddy class shop and wrap in the morning, and we will shop in the afternoon.

This week students will start presenting what they have done so far for their genius hour projects. Presentation can be in English but it is encouraged that students can explain some of their project in French. 

In physical education, students are working on creating a gymnastics choreography in groups. They will be presenting their choreographies next week. 

Next week, our class will be participating in a secret santa exchange.
The class has decided that gifts should be no more than $15.

 Students will receive new French home reading books this Tuesday. It is important that students listen to the audio recording and practice reading aloud everyday of the week. 

Students have been working hard on writing up their own science experiments. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will begin to record their scientific procedure in French using seesaw. At the end of the week, they will present their science experiment to the whole class.

 Students receive new French home reading books.
Congratulations on all the progress with our home reading program! Last week students recorded themselves reading their home reading book in French using seesaw. I could really see an improvement with their pronunciation. 

This week I am finally hoping to go for a walking field trip on Wednesday, November 18. Also, we will be focusing on gymnastics this week for PE.  

Finally, for the next two weeks students are working on creating their own science experiments using the method of inquiry
(La démarche scientifique).

La semaine du 9 novembre

Last week students read an article in French about Remembrance day, made multimedia art work with poppies and created their own poems in French. This week is Remembrance Day so students need to practice their part of the poem "Au champ d'honneur". We are having an assembly after recess on Tuesday and there is no school on Wednesday.
​
On Monday, students will receive a new French book to read at home. At the end of this week, students are to record themselves reading the book using seesaw (our new online portfolio tool).

I will give students time for their genius hour projects on Tuesday and Friday this week. So it is important that students come prepared to work on their genius hour projects.

I am planning a walking field trip on Thursday
and will need parent volunteers.

This Thursday,  is our French Halloween Play. Parents are welcome! We have been working hard creating masks for the play. Students need to practice their lines in order to try and recite them during the play.

Congratulations to all the students for a fantastic "Leaders debate". I will try and put together a little movie for the parents who were unable to attend. This week students will receive a new script for Halloween. Students will be performing next Thursday, October 29 (parents are welcome). We will be carving pumpkins next week please start bringing in pumpkins! The dictée this week consists of questions. I have recorded my voice to help parents and students with proper pronunciation. Students will be evaluated on their spelling and how they are able to orally answer of each question.
