Our math class has been engaged in a project involving a significant community based challenge that exist in the Sea to Sky Corridor: Housing. Being involved in authentic learning is part of the SD #48 Strategic Plan. Authentic real learning projects often stem from a need, an issue or and idea and have a clear purpose. They result in a process, an action a product or deeper understanding that creates an impact and is interactive with an audience.
Our students worked on researching and identifying potential solutions to the following question:
Local and provincial government representatives and other stakeholders of our community were interested in the students’ research and innovative solutions. As a way to share their learning and ideas, each school from the Sea to Sky district was invited to send student representatives to a district wide community forum on April 6 at Whistler Secondary school. At the forum, our students had an opportunity to present their ideas to invited guests from the community and to learn from fellow Sea to Sky K-12 students,
