Out theme this term is learning about different cultures. Here students learnt about Rangoli art from India and Mandala art from Tibet. We watched mini documentaries about their significance and students were asked to create their own Rangoli/Mandala art. Later, in groups, students worked together and selected which art piece they wanted to reproduce outside with chalk.
Creating a Board Game to understand why we have Leap Years
Big idea: Develop, construct, and apply mathematical, scientific and historical understanding through play, inquiry, and problem solving. Criteria: Here students created a board game to learn more about leap years. They needed to design their own game, rules and questions. The only thing was that the game had to be in French and it had to relate to the theme of leap years that revolves around math, science and history.
Here students learnt about print making and multimedia design.
Here students and their buddies looked for naturally shaped hearts in the forest for Valentine's Day. They took pictures and at the end of the week our buddies came to watch a sideshow with all the pictures we took.
Next step :
Here students created a math song in French and in English to review multiplication and division concepts.
With inspiration from their snowmen art and learning about the passé composé (past tense) students were able to create a cute story about what their snowmen did during the night. Here students used the vocabulary and grammar we studied in class to build their sentences.
Big Idea : Develop and refine ideas, processes, and technical skills in art to improve the quality of artistic creations.
For this art project students explored, and created art work using the image development strategies of point of view and magnification. Step 1: A group of students read the story “La vie secrète des bonhommes de neiges” to the class as part of a French oral presentation. Step 2 Students practiced techniques of shading and drawing with pastel colours. Step 3 Each student selected a page from the picture book and created a zoomed image in order to appreciate the detail and create a different point of view.
Every lunch hour, we have been watching episodes from ONIVA radio-canada! And last week, Olivier came for a surprise visit to our classroom. Students were so excited !
Here students were asked introduction questions to find out what they already know about geometry. Here were some of the questions:
